Five For Friday- Soakin' Up Summer Games and a FREEBIE

Happy Friday Sweet Friends!
I couldn't wait to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for another edition of :

This week I thought I'd share some fun Pinterest inspired summer games that my kiddos loved.  Most of the ideas were from Inner Child Fun.com. Some of the games I thought worked so well that they would be fabulous to use with Summer School or an End of Year Field Day.

1.  Noodle Ball

For this activity you will need a swim noodle cut in half and several balloons.  Each player also needs a basket to collect the balloons.  The idea of the game is to see who can get the most balloons in their basket just using the swim noodle.  I don't recommend this game on a windy day.  The wind was blowing just a bit on the day my kiddos played this game.  Our first set of balloons few across our front yard and popped. SO... we played it in the garage.  My boys loved it!

2. Sponge Bullseye

For this game you will need sidewalk chalk, a bucket of water, and 3 sponges.  I drew a bullseye on our driveway and a box for my kiddos to stand in.  They had 3 chances to throw the sponges and tally up their score.  This was perfect math practice for my 7 year old!

3. Sponge Bombs

For this game you will need 12 sponges ( this made 5 sponge bombs) and 2 buckets of water.  Click HERE for a great tutorial on how to make the sponge bombs. It  took me less than 10 minutes to make these sponge bombs.
How to play:  Each child stood behind a bucket filled with water.  Each player took turns throwing the sponge bombs in the child's bucket.  The player with the most sponge bombs in the other person's bucket wins the game.  My kids loved splashing each other with these sponge bombs.  My 7 year old even tested out his theories on how wet should he get the sponge bomb  in order to make the biggest splash.  Lots of learning taking place!!    Afterwards their favorite thing was just to throw these sponge bombs at each other.   This is much easier than filling up all of those water balloons!

4.  ABC scavenger hunt

For this activity you will need magnetic letters and items found outside or  in our case the garage.  (My kiddos were taking things out of the recycle bin for this activity.)
The object of the activity is to find an item for each letter.  This is a great educational activity.  Our 7 year old was listing out items that we could possibly find ,and our 12 year old was scavenging for these items with the help of his youngest brother.  It was a challenge.  I thought this would be a great outdoor activity with a group of students.  Students could be divided into groups and given an area in which to look for items.  My son's suggestion was to already have the items hidden outside ,and they were to find these items and put them under the correct letter.

5.  Freebie- Soakin' Up Summer - Summer Outdoor Learning Stations
Just click on the picture above to be taken to the free download!
I thought these activities would be perfect for an end of year field day or summer school.  I created an investigations mat for each activity.

Have a great weekend!!
